In May, Farmers For Action (FFA) UK NI launched the People’s Prosperity Manifesto in front of Belfast City Hall at the end of April. The manifesto contains a blueprint of important farming and countrywide political issues and may be read here.
FFA will now be holding a major protest outside the EU Offices, Dublin Road Belfast (left), currently set for Monday 24th August at 12noon until 3pm.
All farm organisations, traders and anyone with a vested interest in a profitable rural economy will be welcome on the day.
The Steering Committee of FFA say that the EU’s disastrous farming policies have been increasingly moulded by the influence in Brussels of large corporate food retailers, large corporate food wholesalers and to a lesser extent large corporate food processors.
Now is our opportunity to have our say to the EU as we head towards the 2016 UK EU referendum.
The protest will highlight this intolerable high-level lobbying and furthermore will serve to hold the EU to account on financial safety nets promised to EU rural dwellers and not delivered, for example Article 39b of the Lisbon Treaty which in short states, rural dwellers are to be properly rewarded for their work.
