Rewarded for failure today: London Midland Rail

london midland train 2With astounding disregard for the repeated political calls for efficiency and value for money, following this week’s news that more than 15 London Midland train services, again were cancelled because of crew shortages, it was announced today that its franchise has been extended for two years until June 2017.

Sceptics will wonder what was going on behind the scenes. In November there were calls from public and politicians, in both Houses, for London Midland to be stripped of its franchise when its £332 million contract came up for review last year, because more than 800 London Midland services were cancelled or disrupted.

snouts trough 2A local fitter, as he worked, sensibly suggested that in order for a register of politician’s interests, there should be one for their family and friends, in order for any conflict of interest to be monitored.
