Andrew Mitchell: is the incident’s deeper significance a mirroring of Anglo-Saxon contempt for ‘the other’

British Minister and chief whip Andrew Mitchell is reported to have sworn during a confrontation in Downing Street and has apologised to police for failing to show officers “respect” after being prevented from cycling through the main gate last week.

On a small scale this altercation reveals more openly the attitude to those lower in the social scale, on low incomes or of a different ethnicity.

This mindset makes it politically possible for decision-makers in Britain and the USA to insult and further deprive or to invade, imprison without trial, torture and bomb by remote control those who are ‘not one of us’.
