The curious case of the UK parliament

In the Financial Times:

Sir, It does seem rather curious that the UK parliament, so recently associated in the public mind with the fiddling of members’ expenses, should be qualified to investigate the banking system, currently tainted with (inter alia) the alleged fiddling of key interest rates.
